What is CNG?

CNG, or compressed natural gas, is a cleaner-burning alternative to gasoline. Because CNG fuel is non-toxic and does not pollute groundwater, it is safer than gasoline and diesel. It is created by reducing natural gas (methane) to less than 1% of its original volume. This is the same natural gas that you use every day to heat your home, water, cook on the stove, and even dry your laundry. CNG fuel is gaining popularity in both commercial and non-commercial vehicles.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) being an environmentally friendly alternative form of fuel is a cleaner fuel. It is a cleaner fuel as it plays a very important role in reducing vehicular greenhouse gas emissions and particularly plays a key role in reducing the environmental pollution. The CNG will be compressed to a pressure of 200 to 250 kg/cm2. In a compressed form, the CNG will occupy less than 1 per cent of its volume at atmospheric pressure. Though it differs from liquified petroleum gas (LPG) in its constituents, CNG consists of around 80 to 90 per cent of methane, on the other hand, LPG is a liquid, consisting of a mixture of propane and butane in liquid form.
