Francesco Gaetano Caltagirone: Career Highlights

After studying engineering in Rome, Caltagirone resumed the family business with his brothers and cousin. He became a partner in the company, which has constructed approximately 200 real estate complexes. In 1984, he acquired Vianini Lavori S.p.A. and became its president. In 1992, he took over Cementir S.p.A. and transformed it into a multinational company. By the mid-nineties, he had gained full control of the Caltagirone Group.

Caltagirone also ventured into the media industry. He acquired several newspapers, including Il Messaggero, Il Mattino, Corriere Adriatico, and Il Gazzettino. He established Caltagirone Editore, which became the fifth biggest publishing group in Italy.

Throughout his career, Caltagirone held various positions in prestigious organizations. He was appointed Knight of the Order of Merit for Labour in 2006. He served as vice-president of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena and director of Assicurazioni Generali S.p.A.
