James Irsay

James Irsay, an American businessman, serves as the principal owner, chairman, and CEO of the Indianapolis Colts. He is the son of Robert Irsay, who acquired the Baltimore franchise in 1972 and later moved the team to Indianapolis. Raised in Illinois, Irsay attended Loyola Academy and Mercersburg Academy before graduating from Southern Methodist University with a degree in broadcast journalism. After joining the Colts' professional staff, he became the team's vice president and general manager in 1984. Following his father's stroke, Irsay assumed a more prominent role as the team's senior executive vice president, general manager, and chief operating officer. He became the youngest NFL team owner at the age of 37 after his father's death in 1997. Under Irsay's leadership, the Colts have achieved numerous accomplishments, including 10 division titles, 18 playoff appearances, and a victory in Super Bowl XLI. Outside of football, Irsay is known for his philanthropy, supporting various initiatives aimed at mental health research and removing stigma. He has donated to organizations such as the Irsay Family YMCA, Riley Hospital for Children, and the Irsay Research Institute. Irsay is also recognized for his extensive music and memorabilia collection, including notable purchases such as the original manuscript of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" and guitars owned by famous musicians such as Elvis Presley and Kurt Cobain. Additionally, he performs with his own all-star band, The Jim Irsay Band, and has hosted free concerts across the country.
