Domestic LPG Cylinders

The domestic LPG cylinders are mainly used for household purposes across the country. The liquefied petroleum gas which is the safest form of the gas which is available in nature after processing is considered as the safest one used for the purpose of cooking and heating purpose in-house. The gas can be stored in a pressurized environment in the form of liquid either in cylinders or in tanks.

The domestic cylinders are painted with red colour and are available in 5 kgs, 14.2 kgs.

These cylinders will be delivered to the doorsteps of the households and the same is available at subsidized rates for the household purpose for those consumers whose annual income for a year is less than Rs 10,00,000. For those individuals whose annual income exceeds Rs 10 lakhs per annum, subsidy amount will not be provided. The subsidy amount will be directly credited to respective bank accounts which have been linked to the gas connection after the purchase of LPG cylinder. Customers have to first pay the full amount along with the delivery charges of a domestic LPG cylinder at the time of purchase and after some days, subsidy amount will be credited to their bank account.

Non-Domestic / Commercial LPG Cylinders

LPG cylinders are even available for non-domestic use which will be mainly used at hotels, restaurants, food caterers (who cook food in large quantity and supply for marriage functions, get together, events and so on), resorts, etc. The prices of the non-domestic cylinder are high when compared with the domestic ones. They are not entitled to get any kind of subsidy amount from the government and they have to pay the market rate at which the cylinders are sold.

The non-domestic cylinder will be painted with blue colour for its easy identification and it is available in 5 kgs, 19 kgs, 47.5 kgs, 425 kgs.

Lucknow has witnessed a slight adjustment in LPG prices, with the cost of a 14.2 kg cylinder now set at Rs 840.50, inclusive of subsidies for the month of March. This reflects a reduction of Rs 100 from the previous month, a noteworthy development as the 2024 general elections draw closer, scheduled between April and May.

The pricing of LPG is overseen by major oil market companies, namely HPCL, BPCL, and Indian Oil, which also regulate rates for different cylinder sizes, including 14.2 kg, 5 kg, 19 kg, and 47.5 kg cylinders. Fluctuations in LPG rates are influenced by global crude oil prices and the exchange rate between the Rupee and the Dollar.

Key providers of LPG cylinders in the region include HP Gas (HPCL), Bharat Gas (BPCL), and Indane Gas (Indian Oil Corporation). Notably, a 19 kg cylinder is priced at Rs 1,909, a 5 kg cylinder at Rs 313, and a 47.5 kg cylinder at Rs 4,768.

LPG cylinders cater to both commercial and domestic needs, with prices varying accordingly. Commercial cylinders in Lucknow are priced higher than domestic ones. Additionally, the cost of subsidized and non-subsidized gas cylinders may differ based on customers' subsidy status.

Oil marketing companies such as Indane, HP, and Bharat Gas possess the authority to monthly adjust LPG prices, aligning them with currency fluctuations and global crude oil prices.

Moreover, the Ministry's website announces the availability of new LPG connections on demand nationwide. Individuals without an existing LPG connection from PSU Oil Companies can apply for a domestic connection by visiting the nearest distributor. The application process, requiring valid proof of identity and address, can now be completed through mobile apps and portals.

Acceptable documents for proof of residence include Aadhaar (UID), Driving License, Lease Agreement, Voter ID, Ration Card, Telephone/Electricity/Water Bill, Passport, Self-declaration attested by a Gazetted Officer, Flat allotment/Possession letter, House Registration Document, LIC policy, and Bank/Credit Card statements.
