LPG Price in Tamil Nadu (20th April 2024)

The Domestic LPG (14.2 kg) price in Tamil Nadu (Chennai) stands at ₹818.50. No change recorded in the LPG price compared to last month. Over the past 12 months, the LPG price trend has been decreasing, with a decrease of ₹300 from May 2023 to April 2024. The most significant price decrease was ₹200 in August 2023.

The LPG price in Tamil Nadu is mainly determined by the state-run oil companies and the same is subject to change on a monthly basis based on the global crude fuel rates. The rise in crude oil leads to a rise in the LPG rates in Tamil Nadu and vice-versa. LPG is a safe and colourless gas and hence its use has tremendously increased in the domestic and industrial sector. The government of India is currently providing domestic LPG Gas cylinder (14.2 kgs) in Tamil Nadu at subsidized rates to the low-income section of the society. The subsidy amount will be directly transferred to the customer’s bank account. Currently, the cooking gas in India is easily accessible to most of the people.

LPG prices are subject to fluctuations due to a number of factors, such as fluctuations in global supply and demand, shifts in geopolitical events, exchange rates, government regulations and subsidies, transportation costs, supply and demand dynamics, and weather conditions. These elements interact in a complicated way to determine the price of LPG in general, and changes in any one of them can cause price swings over time.

Factors That Affect LPG Prices In Tamil Nadu

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) can fluctuate in Tamil Nadu or anywhere else for a variety of reasons, including global market prices, taxes, shipping expenses, and government subsidies.

Since LPG is traded internationally, supply and demand on a worldwide scale affect its price. Prices can be impacted by a variety of factors, including variations in production levels, supply chain disruptions due to geopolitical events, and changes in global energy markets. LPG is frequently generated during the refining process in addition to crude oil.

Consequently, the cost of manufacturing LPG is influenced by changes in crude oil prices, which in turn affects LPG's price.

Because LPG is traded globally, changes in exchange rates may have an effect on the price in local currency. Changes in the value of the currency in relation to the currency used to trade LPG can have an impact on import expenses and, in turn, retail pricing. Taxes, subsidies and government regulations can have an immediate impact on LPG retail prices. Seasonal variations exist in the demand for LPG, with winter months seeing a spike in demand for going up or going down in the festive seasons.

Distance, infrastructure, and method of transportation are some of the elements that affect LPG prices, while transportation and distribution patterns also have an influence on them. Prices in LPG futures markets can also be influenced by speculative trading. LPG contracts can be bought or sold by traders in response to changes in supply, demand, or geopolitical circumstances that may affect spot prices. You can check with your neighbourhood gas dealer, official government websites, or reputable news sources to determine the latest LPG price in Tamil Nadu. You may also check the current pricing on the websites or applications of several gas companies.
