Mikhail Balakin: Career Highlights

Mikhail Balakin's career in the construction industry began in 1983 when he graduated from Kuibyshev Moscow State University of Civil Engineering with a degree in civil engineering. He worked his way up from master to chief engineer over eight years, demonstrating his exceptional skills and leadership abilities.

In 1990, Balakin became the director of Construction Management No. 155 (SU-155), a company that would later become one of the largest construction companies in Russia. Under his leadership, SU-155 grew rapidly and became a publicly traded company in 1993. Balakin served as the co-owner and general director of SU-155, overseeing its successful expansion and diversification.

In 2000, Balakin moved to work in the Moscow mayor's office, where he was responsible for municipal projects and substandard housing renovation. During his tenure, he oversaw the renovation of several iconic landmarks in Moscow, including the Moscow International House of Music, the Bolshoi Theatre's new stage, the Square of Europe, and the MGU Library.

After leaving the mayor's office in 2005, Balakin returned to SU-155 as chairman. Under his leadership, the company continued to grow and expand, becoming a major player in the Russian construction industry. Balakin is the majority shareholder of SU-155 Group, which comprises over 80 industrial and construction businesses.
