The deadline of february 6, 2018 for linkiing aadhaar and mobile phone number cannot be unilaterally modified by the government as the Supreme court has fixed it.
The government declares deadline for linking mobile numbers with Aadhaar as February 6, 2018 after citing the Supreme court order that mandates the linking of the phone number with unique ID issued by the UIDAI. Also, it stated that the 12-digit Id needs to be provided at the time of opening new bank accounts.

The Centre said, "The deadline for linkage of Aadhaar with mobile phone number cannot be modified by the government unilaterally (as it is fixed by the SC)".
In the Lokniti Foundation case it is the Supreme Court which has given approval for the mandatory linking of mobile number with Aadhaar on February 6. The time frame to comply with the directive extends for a period of one year.
