IRCTC Gets A New Website That Predicts Confirmation of Tickets

IRCTC (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation), the catering and ticket booking arm of Indian Railways launched a new gateway that is very less cluttered than the old, as a step to improve upon its services. The old website will continue operating for railway ticket booking along with the new website to avoid inconvenience to the public.

The visible changes on the new IRCTC website:

1. Layout

1. Layout

The layout is much more user friendly and not cluttered compared to the old version. The background has pleasant pictures of the Indian trains and the page begins with a clear dialogue box for train ticket inquiry.

It also has other services like flights, stay, cabs, e-catering, holiday packages, etc displayed in clear icons for easy access. The advertisements are also placed without blocking services.

2. No log-in required for inquiry

2. No log-in required for inquiry

The old website required the user to log-in into their accounts to make basic searches like availability of seats and checking train routes. The new platform will allow you to do it without it. However, to book the ticket, you are required to log-in.

3. Calculate the possibility of confirmed ticket

3. Calculate the possibility of confirmed ticket

When you do not get a train seat, you are not sure of whether your ticket that's on the waiting list will ever get confirmed.

To solve this, IRCTC has introduced a new feature that works on an algorithm developed by Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). Based on the booking trends, it will show you if your ticket that has been on the waiting list or RAC, will get confirmed. It takes into account data from the last 13 years.

4. Vikalp

4. Vikalp

'Vikalp' scheme offered on the new website allows users to switch to alternate journey plan if their ticket is wait-listed. This way the passenger can get a confirmed ticket on the alternate route than wait for his/her ticket to get 'confirmed'.

Over the past few months, Indian Railways has made many improvements in its services like developing the MADAD App, AI (artificial intelligence) in IRCTC kitchens, payment of food on trains using cards, printing tickets in regional languages, etc.
