Airtel Shares Gain On Beating Jio In Monthly Mobile Subscriber Addition After 4 Years
On Friday, shares of Bharti Airtel rose nearly 2% to Rs 490 after the mobile operator became the biggest gainer in terms of users in September with 3.8 million subscriber additions, as per data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
In comparison, Reliance Jio added 1.5 million users and BSNL gained 78,252 users. It is the first time in 4 years that a telecom operator beat Jio in monthly subscriber addition.
On the other hand, Vodafone Idea lost 4.6 million subscribers in September. MTNL and Reliance Communications NSE 3.03 % lost 5,784 and 1,324 customers, respectively.
As per TRAI's data, Jio's wireless subscriber base now stands at 404.1 million, Bharti Airtel's is 326.6 million and 295.5 million for Vodafone Idea.
Reliance Jio now holds the market of 35.1%, followed by Airtel at 28.4% and Vodafone Idea at 25.7%.
The total broadband subscriber base grew 1.41% to 1,168.66 million in September from 1,167.81 million in the previous month.
