Since the time the Middle East conflict escalated between the US-Israel and Iran, there has been an LPG crunch in India. To tackle the crisis seamlessly and smoothly, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas has announced several measures and new rules for Indian households.
The biggest change is the 45-day and 25-days lock-in period for refilling LPG cylinders; however, this depends upon Indian households locations. In the latest update, the ministry has encouraged commercial LPG consumers in urban areas to switch to PNG, while the ministry has barred PNG customers from opting for new LPG connections.

Amidst the chaos and panic, online booking for LPG cylinders has skyrocketed to 94%. The government has asked citizens to avoid panic bookings and use digital modes for booking cylinders.
One of the biggest relief emerged after LPG carriers Shivalik and Nanda Devi arrived the shores of Mundra Port and Kandla. The government has already commenced discharge for onward transfer of these gases to the East Cost including Ennore and Haldia.
LPG Cylinder Booking Amidst Shortage:
"LPG supply continues to be monitored in view of the prevailing geopolitical situation," said the ministry on March 17. The data of ministry revealed that there are no dry-outs reported at LPG distributorships, while domestic LPG production surged by approximately 38% and online bookings for LPG rose by a whopping 94%.
Also, the delivery authentication code coverage expended from 53% before the crisis to about 76% to prevent diversion.
The ministry reiterated that "Domestic LPG cylinder deliveries continue as normal."
It added, "Several States and UTs such as Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Manipur, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand have issued orders for allocation of non-domestic LPG in line with Government guidelines, and commercial LPG supply is being made available across States and UTs."

That being said, in general terms, it usually takes about two to three days for an LPG cylinder to get delivered. However, since the government has imposed 45-days and 25-days lock-in period coupled with massive surge on online booking and demand, the delivery time currently could be delayed.
LPG Cylinder Booking 45-Days Rule:
To tackle hoarding and black marketing of LPG across the country, the government modified the lock-in period for LPG refill. Before LPG crisis, the lock-in period to order for gas cylinder was 21 days. But now, there are two types of lock-in period and the longest is of 45 days.
The 45-days lock-in period is meant for rural householders to ensure equitable distribution. Hence, if you reside in rural areas of the country, you can only book for another LPG after 45 days from the date of buying the current LPG.
Notably, PSU Oil Companies are promoting digital bookings and discouraging panic bookings, with improved adoption of online booking systems.
LPG Cylinder Booking 25-Days Rule:
For households in urban areas, the booking intervals are revised to 25-days.
But the government has advised commercial LPG consumers in urban areas to switch to PNG, while establishments such as hotels, restaurants, hospitals and hostels can obtain PNG connections from authorised City Gas Distribution (CGD) entities.
