Gold prices in India today jumped yet again after staying steady on September 26, 2024 amid soaring hopes of yet another big US interest rate cut in 2024. Meanwhile, traders are looking forward to crucial inflation report for more cues on interest rate trajectory. 24k gold prices today surged by Rs 430 to Rs 77,450/10 grams and 100 grams of 24 carat precious metal prices rallied by Rs 4300 to Rs 7,74,500 on Friday. 22k gold prices today surged by Rs 400 to Rs 71,000/10 grams and 100 grams of 22 carat yellow metal prices today jumped by Rs 4000 to end at Rs 7,10,000.

Meanwhile, 18k gold prices today rallied by Rs 320 to Rs 58,090/10 grams and 100 grams of 18 carat gold price today gained by Rs 3200 to Rs 5,80,900.

According to Renisha Chainani, Head Research - Augmont Gold For All, "tt is relatively rare for gold and equities to be near record highs simultaneously, as they tend to respond differently to economic conditions. Gold is traditionally viewed as a "safe-haven" asset, attracting investors during times of economic uncertainty, inflation, or financial market instability. In contrast, equities typically rise during periods of economic growth and investor confidence, when corporate earnings are strong and risk appetite is high.

However, this dynamic can shift during periods of unusual economic circumstances, such as when central banks flood markets with liquidity through stimulus measures or keep interest rates exceptionally low. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, both gold and equities hit record highs in 2020 due to massive monetary stimulus, low interest rates, and inflation concerns. Investors flocked to gold as a hedge against potential currency debasement and inflation while also investing in equities due to optimistic growth prospects from stimulus support, added Renisha Chainani.
