Gold rates and silver rates in India surged on Monday, October 19, 2026, tracking an uptrend in the global bullion market. MCX gold price gained marginally to trade near Rs 1,48,400 per 10 grams, while MCX silver performed better than yellow metal to trade around Rs 2,12,700 per 1Kg.
Spot gold price surged marginally to trade near $4,180 per ounce, while spot silver climbed by more than 1.2% to trade above $57.7 per ounce. Gold also witnessed buying momentum as crude oil prices declined by 1% in US WTI to $100.5 per barrel, and Brent crude plunged 2% to trade near $108 per barrel.
Oil prices are down but they are still very elevated, indicating energy crisis and inflationary pressures, keeping the probability of more rate hikes in 2026 high.
The latest surge in gold and silver is due to dovish remarks from Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh prompted traders to scale back expectations of an October rate hike.
During his speech, Warsh specifically avoided giving any clear guidance on FOMC's next rates decision. The Fed are going to declare their bi-monthly monetary policy in the end of this month.
Warsh shed light on rising energy prices, persistent inflation and higher borrowing costs that create unprecedent uncertainty on the overall global economy. However, he was also optimistic of US economy's growth ahead and believes artificial intelligence (AI) to become a major driving factor for future growth.
The Fed has since entered its blackout period ahead of the October 27-28 policy meeting, with markets pricing in an approximately 84% probability of rates remaining unchanged. Gold also benefited from safe-haven demand as growing concerns over AI-related investments triggered an equity selloff and pushed bond yields lower. Meanwhile, escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and Eastern Europe kept oil prices elevated, while violent protests in France and other European countries added to broader market uncertainty, as per Trading Economics.

Gold rates in India surged sharply on Monday, October 19, 2026, due to a decline in crude oil prices and dovish remarks from US Federal Reserve's chair, Kevin Warsh, which has eased inflation concerns. Investors also predict the ongoing geopolitical risks to support the bullion market. However, the surge in precious metals also comes as a spoilsport for those who are looking to buy gold ahead of Dussehra. The 24-carat gold price surged by at least Rs 3,800, while the 22-carat and 18-carat gold rates climbed by up to Rs 3,500 and Rs 2,900. The 10 grams gold has surpassed Rs 1.48 lakh mark in several cities.
Live Gold Silver Rates Today: Why MCX Gold & Silver Prices Are Up Today?
Gold is benefiting from cheaper oil this morning because lower energy prices ease inflation concerns. That matters to investors who expect geopolitical uncertainty alone to support bullion. When an oil shock raises expectations of higher interest rates, gold can face selling pressure even while the underlying uncertainty persists. At 8.29 am IST on October 19, international spot gold was up 0.3% at $4,175.60 an ounce. Silver gained 0.9% to $57.54. These gains offer an encouraging external signal for India, although the domestic starting point remains Friday’s MCX close: ₹1,48,000 per 10 grams for December gold and ₹2,11,418 per kg for December silver. Those figures should be kept separate from Monday’s opening trades: Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus.com.
