Gold rates and silver rates in India are trading under pressure on Tuesday, as the market is predicting a 25 basis points rate hike from the RBI, which will end 11-month-long dovish policy cycle. Also, the global bullion market is currently facing selloffs, also impact both MCX gold and MCX silver. In the early trade, MCX gold price held below Rs 1.50 lakh mark and MCX silver struggled to retain Rs 2.27 lakh level. Both the precious metals are marginally down.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is facing a difficult situation in the October 2026 policy due to a challenging macro environment, elevated crude oil prices, and rising treasury yields. Choosing between a rate hike or status quo will have a substantial impact on financial markets, including savings, borrowings, and, most importantly, inflation. The market is predicting RBI to follow in the footsteps of the US Federal Reserve and announce a 25 basis point hike.
In the global market, spot gold is currently near 2-month low to trade below $4,150 per ounce due to rising dollar and treasury yields, which has made non-yielding assets like gold less attractive. Spot silver also traded lower to below $61 per ounce. The dollar is at its highest level since April 2025, while US 10 year and 30-year treasury yield surged to 24-month high, mounting fiscal risks and inflation concerns.
ISM data showed that cost pressures in the US services sector increased at the fastest pace in more than four years last month. Meanwhile, markets are pricing in roughly a 78% probability that the Fed will keep interest rates unchanged this month following weaker-than-expected US jobs data. Elsewhere, oil prices declined on signs of increased supply from the Middle East, easing concerns over inflation and higher interest rates, as per Trading Economics.
