Gold rates and silver rates in India will witness a special live trading session at MCX on Sunday, November 8, 2026, because of Diwali Lakxmi Pujan's auspicious muhurat. Ahead of the special trading session, MCX gold crashed by 1.20% on Friday to hold below Rs 1,42,400 per 10 grams. Silver was marginally up to Rs 1,84,977 per 1Kg.
Notably, spot gold also dropped by 0.4% overnight to hold above $4,070 per ounce and spot silver gained by 0.2% to trade near $51,88 per ounce. Meanwhile, crude oil prices regained momentum. US WTI Crude oil is near $91 per barrel and Brent crude above $98 per barrel.
Precious metals came under pressure due to strengthening of dollar after a stronger-than-expected nonfarm payrolls report, reinforcing expectations that the Federal Reserve could raise interest rates at its policy meeting next month. Despite Friday's pullback, gold remained up more than 4% for the week, supported by safe-haven demand following a sweeping Democratic victory in the US midterm elections, which prompted investors to rotate out of AI stocks and seek defensive assets, as per Trading Economics.
Meanwhile, physical gold rates in India are unchanged on the day of Badi or Main Diwali. On November 8, 2026, 10 grams gold price stood above Rs 1,43,500 in 24-carat, at Rs 1,31,600 in 22-carat and over Rs 1,07,600 in 18-carat across major cities.
Gold is most expensive in Delhi, while gold prices are same in cities like Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kerala, Kolkata, and Pune among others. The demand for gold is usually high in major festivals like Diwali. Today, devotees will perform puja rituals for goddess Lakshmi, who is known for wealth and prosperity. The shiny gold has been a long-standing symbol of wealth and security since ages for India.
