Sensex, Nifty Trade At New Record Highs, Nifty Tops 15890 Points

Indian benchmark indices in trade on June 15, 2021 (Tuesday) opened higher despite mixed Asian cues. The Nifty hit a new record high of 15,890 points.

Top gainers in early trade included stocks like Adani Ports, Power Grid, Coal India, ONGC and HDFC, while laggards have been JSW Steel, Hindalco, UPL, Tata Steel and SBI Life Insurance.

Among Nifty sectoral indices, all except Nifty Pharma traded in the green, led by gains in the media, private bank and realty space of over 1 percent.

Coal India shares gained by a tad bit in early trade only to fall later by a marginal 0.25%. On Monday, the company reported a marginal decline in its Q4FY21 at Rs. 4,586.78 crore owing to a drag in sales. Sales at the company declined to Rs. 24,510.8 crore in the review period.

After massive fall in the Adani Group shares, clarification came in from NSDL, the Group itself and one of the Mauritius based fund, which said that the shares owned by the foreign funds were not frozen. In early trade, Adani Ports has been the top Nifty gainer.

SBI Cards and Payment Services (SBI Card) on Monday in a filing said it has raised Rs 500 crore by issuing bonds.

Meanwhile at the time of writing this report, Asian indices are trading on a mixed note with Japan's Nikkei, Taiwan and Kospi index trading higher, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down by over 1 percent.

Oil prices in today's trade inched higher as the possibility of more supply coming from Iran into the market lowered. Brent crude is up for the fourth straight session by 43 cents or 0.6 percent at $73.29 per barrel.
