Last Date To Link Aadhaar With Ration Card Extended Till 30th June 2022

The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has extended the deadline for people who want to link their Aadhaar with their Ration Card. The previous deadline of December 31, 2021 was extended until March 31, 2022, but it was extended to June 30, 2022 in a notification dated March 22, 2022.

The National Food Security Act mandates that the central and state governments work together to implement the Targeted Public Distribution System's essential improvements. As a result, in order to benefit from the government's reforms, it is required to link Aadhaar for unique identification with biometric information of eligible beneficiaries for effective benefit targeting under this Act.

The Department of Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs has mentioned on its website that "One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) is a scheme that will nationalise a beneficiary's ration card by a process called Aadhaar Seeding. Aadhaar Number with her/ his ration card. Aadhaar seeding ensures that the beneficiary can pick up her or his entitled foodgrain from any contractual price shop in the country. So, if the family migrants from one part of the country to another, their claim to food security remains assured."

According to the government, approximately 75% to 80% of monthly food grains allotted by the Department to States/UTs are now delivered to beneficiaries using biometrically/Aadhaar validated ePoS transactions under the One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC) programme.
