LPG Gas Cylinder E-KYC Deadline Ends Today: 12 Lakh LPG Users Pending For E-KYC, August 31st Deadline Unlikely

The August 31 deadline for LPG biometric Aadhaar authentication is ending on Monday. However, reports have revealed that at least 12 lakh LPG users are still pending updating their e-KYC, which brings the question of whether the August 31 deadline will get extended again. Failure to meet the deadline can lead to temporary suspension of LPG connections, blocking of LPG refills or bookings, and pushing customers to pay higher rates on domestic cooking gas cylinders.

Will Gas Cylinder E-KYC Deadline Get Extended Again?

According to reports, as the August 31st deadline for LPG e-KYC expires on Monday, approximately 12 lakh LPG users are still pending for completing their e-KYC. Despite this, the deadline is unlikely to be extended.

"As of now, the deadline is August 31. We have no information about any further extension. It is a decision that will be taken at the national level," said an official of Indane - the flagship LPG brand of Indian Oil—in Calcutta, as cited by the Telegraph India.

One LPG distributor in Calcutta reveals about 32,000 domestic LPG customers are pending to complete their e-KYC in their zone. While another revealed that of the total 50,000 non-Ujjwala LPG connections, about 10% of them are yet to complete their e-KYC.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Indane LPG Distributors' Association in Bengal, Behari Biswas said that the Union Ministry will take a call on the matter.

LPG users also faced difficulties during the weekend completing their e-KYC, as some agencies were mostly shut on Sunday. While some LPG distributors did operate on both August 29th and August 30th to complete the e-KYC process for customers.

What Happens If You Miss the Gas Cylinder E-KYC Deadline?

So far, it is known that LPG users who did not meet the deadline will not get LPG cylinders at the subsidized rate and their direct benefit transfer in the PMUY scheme will be stopped until they complete the e-KYC process. Another key impact will be that non-PMUY customers who failed to complete their e-KYC will likely have to buy their domestic LPG cylinders at the commercial rates. Meanwhile, the probability of temporary suspension for Indane Gas, HP Gas and Bharat Gas could also emerge.

These impacts could only be erased only if the LPG Aadhaar biometrics are completed.

Here's a brief understanding on the impact: Currently, the market price for Indane Gas LPG cylinders in 14.2 Kg is at Rs 942 in Delhi, at Rs 968 in Kolkata, Rs 941.50 in Mumbai and Rs 957.50 per cylinder in Chennai.

If you are a PMUY member, you will get Rs 300 LPG subsidy on your 14.2 Kg LPG cylinders. This reduces your paying amount. If Rs 300 subsidy applied, your purchase price on 14.2 Kg LPG cylinders would be around Rs 642 in Delhi, at Rs 668 in Kolkata, at Rs 641.5 in Mumbai and at Rs 657.50 in Chennai.

But this benefit is only available to those who have completed their e-KYC. If you failed to complete the Aadhaar-biometric KYC by August 31, you will not get the subsidized rate.

Further, if you are non-PMUY user and failed to meet August 31st deadline, you will pay commercial rates for LPGs. In August, 19 Kg commercial LPG rates stood at Rs 2,738 in Delhi, at Rs 2,691.50 in Mumbai, at RS 2,872.50 in Kolkata and at RS 2,906 in Chennai.

So if you become ineligible for domestic rates on LPGs due to missing e-KYC and if commercial rates are applied, then you are paying Rs 1,796 extra on domestic LPG in Delhi (Rs 2,738 - Rs 942). The same impact could be seen across states.

How To Complete E-KYC For Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas?

Step 1: Download the relevant app for your LPG gas cylinders. This include

Step 2: Register or log in using the mobile number linked to your LPG account.

Step 3: Verify your mobile number by entering the OTP sent to your registered number.

Step 4: Link or access your LPG account. For Indane Gas, you will have to enter your 16-digit LPG ID to link with your account. On the other hand, the e-KYC option is directly available on the BPCL and HPCL app.

Step 5: Open e-KYC option. For Indane Gas, you will find the e-KYC option under MY PROFILE. For Bharat Gas, e-KYC option is available on the homepage. While e-KYC option is under 'LPG section' of HP Pay app.

Step 6: Read the terms and conditions and provide consent to proceed with Aadhaar-based face authentication.

Step 7: Complete the face scan. Tap Face Scan/Capture Face, allow the AadhaarFaceRD app to scan your face, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete your e-KYC.
