LPG Prices Change From October 1, 2026: Will 14.2 Kg & 19 Kg Indane, HP, Bharat Gas Cylinder Prices Hike?

LPG prices in India will be revised for the October 2026 month. However, with the strong rally in crude oil prices, the chances of a hike in either 14.2 Kg or 19 Kg Indane Gas, HP Gas and Bharat Gas cylinders has heightened for the next month. Crude oil prices movement is directly linked to LPG prices revision as India imports a major amount of oil from global market. Brent crude is expected to hit $130 per barrel if the tensions between US and Iran does not ease, which will play a major role on LPG prices.

How Do Crude Oil Prices Impact LPG Prices?

Crude oil prices ↑ → global energy prices can rise → international LPG prices may rise → India's LPG import/procurement cost rises → pressure on domestic LPG prices ↑

As per PPAC data, India imported up to 21.50 MMT of LPG in FY26, against the consumption of 33.2 MMT, which meant 61% dependency on imports for LPG.

Hence, LPG prices are vulnerable to the movement in crude oil prices.

Crude Oil Prices Elevated:

This week, Brent crude neared $108 per barrel and US WTI crude oil gained to near $96 per barrel. The reason is the stalled negotiations between US and Iran.

Saudi Arabia has restored roughly half the flows through its East-West pipeline, with shipments to the Red Sea reaching at least 3.5 million barrels a day. The route provides a crucial alternative to exports through the Strait of Hormuz and is helping offset the lack of progress in diplomatic talks. US and Iranian officials have continued separate discussions with mediators, including indirect contacts through Qatar, as regional governments push for ceasefire negotiations. However, Iranian officials have privately expressed doubts that an agreement can be reached before the US midterm elections in November. President Donald Trump has rejected an Iranian proposal to restore full traffic through Hormuz and denied reports that Washington offered sanctions relief in exchange for nuclear concessions, as per Trading Economics.

Overall, US WTI crude oil has gained 8% this month and Brent Crude has skyrocketed by nearly 16%, keeping inflationary pressures and import bills high.

As per analysts at Choice Institutional Equities, key factors that could cap further oil-price upside include a reversal in the tariff stance, an additional release of strategic barrels and, most importantly, a consistent reduction in China's crude imports. In a bear case scenario , we see Brent price spiking to $130/b towards expiry of November contract on 30th Sept 2026, as the Dated Brent continues to trade at $120/b. Meanwhile, in In a bull case scenario , Brent price could dip to $90/b over the coming weeks. Overall, we see Brent price revert to the range of $95-100/b over the coming month.

Amidst this, chances of oil marketing companies like Indian Oil, HPCL and BPCL hiking the prices of LPG is high for October 2026. The only probability of keeping LPG prices unchanged or trimming it lower will be if OMCs bear the burden of cost.

The cumulative negative LPG buffer increased sharply to Rs. 61,940 crore as on June 30, 2026 as the rise in international LPG prices following the West Asian supply disruptions was not fully passed on to the consumers. The estimated loss per domestic cylinder was ~Rs. 500 in Q1 FY2027 and remained at around Rs.300/cylinder in September 2026, as per ICRA report.

ICRA's note added the government approved compensation of Rs. 30,000 crore in August 2025, payable in 12 tranches across FY2026 and FY2027 for domestic LPG under recoveries. LPG under-recoveries are likely to rise further if elevated international prices persist without a commensurate increase in domestic selling prices or additional Government compensation.
