In a major relief for the people of Maharashtra, the state government has decided to cut the petrol and diesel prices by Rs 5 and Rs 3, respectively. Currently, petrol is selling at Rs 111.35 per litre in Maharashtra and now it will sell for Rs 106.35.

Meanwhile, current price of diesel is Rs 97.28 per litre and after the deduction of Rs 3, it will now cost Rs 94.28.
Earlier, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas HS Puri had said that people of Maharashtra may soon witness a dip in petrol prices. Mr. Puri made the comments on the back of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's plan to slash fuel prices in the state.
According to the report featured in The Hindu Business Line recently, "Not to make a political point, but I guess petrol prices will come down in Maharashtra now," Puri had told reporters few days back.
Meanwhile, Eknath Shinde had also revealed plans that fuel prices would be brought down in Maharashtra. He had shared on Twitter in Marathi, "A decision to reduce VAT on fuel will be taken soon to provide relief to the people."
It is important to note that public sector oil marketing companies that may include Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) revise prices of fuel everyday keeping in line with benchmark global prices and foreign exchange rates. If any changes in the prices of petrol and diesel occur, it is implemented at 6 AM everyday.
