SEBI Chairman Tyagi's Term Extended By 18 Months

On Wednesday, the government extended Ajay Tyagi's term as SEBI's (Securities and Exchange Board of India) chairman by 18 months. According to an order from the Personnel Ministry, Tyagi's term has been extended by February 2022.

SEBI Chairman Tyagi's Term Extended By 18 Months

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the extension of Tyagi's term for 18 months, with effect from 1 September 2020 up to 28 February 2020, it said.

Tyagi, a 1984 batch IAS (retired) officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, was appointed as the SEBI chairman in March 2017 for three years. He was in March this year given a six-month extension till August.

He hails from Uttar Pradesh and is a Post Graduate in Economics. He has completed his Masters in Public Administration from Harvard.
