Cameron Green lived up to his billing as the biggest attraction of the IPL 2026 auction, triggering a fierce bidding war that rewrote the record books.

The Australian all rounder, widely tipped to draw massive interest, ended the day as the costliest overseas player in IPL history after Kolkata Knight Riders went all out to secure his services.
Bidding opens with early sparks from MI, KKR and RR
The auctioneer called out Cameron Green's name to loud anticipation, with Mumbai Indians opening the bidding at Rs 2 crore despite having the lowest remaining budget. Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals quickly joined the contest, pushing the price past Rs 7 crore in no time.
As KKR and RR continued to trade bids, the amount surged beyond Rs 10 crore and then crossed Rs 13 crore, setting the tone for what was clearly shaping up to be one of the most intense battles of the auction.
Royals hang on as the price keeps climbing
Rajasthan Royals, working with a purse of Rs 16.05 crore, showed strong intent by staying in the race deep into the bidding. The price touched Rs 13.60 crore before the Royals finally opted to pull out, having stretched their budget to the limit in pursuit of the Australian star.
CSK enter late as the auction room erupts
Just as Rajasthan exited, Chennai Super Kings entered the fray, drawing a big reaction inside the auction room. With CSK and KKR now head to head, the bidding crossed Rs 15 crore and showed no signs of slowing down.
The two franchises continued to push each other past Rs 20 crore, with Cameron Green now certain to break records. As the amount touched Rs 25 crore, he officially surpassed the previous overseas record held by Mitchell Starc, who had been bought by KKR for Rs 24.75 crore in the IPL 2024 auction.
Record shattered as KKR seal the deal at Rs 25.20 crore
The final stretch saw Chennai Super Kings eventually bow out, allowing Kolkata Knight Riders to land the final bid. Cameron Green was sold to KKR for a staggering Rs 25.20 crore, making him the most expensive overseas player in IPL history.
With this signing, the three time champions have added a marquee all rounder to their squad, while the IPL 2026 auction delivered one of its most dramatic and memorable moments.
