Sreenivasan passes away: The legendary actor-writer-director, who famously changed the landscape of Malayalam cinema with his unparalleled work, is no more. The 69-year-old reportedly passed away at the Taluk hospital of Trippunithura in Kochi, after a prolonged battle with cardiac ailments. Sreenivasan is survived by wife Vimala and sons, actor-writer-director Vineeth Sreenivasan, and actor-writer Dhyan Sreenivasan.

Sreenivasan Is No More
The legendary multi-faceted talent of Malayalam cinema was born on April 6, 1956, in Pattiyam, near Thalassery in the Kannur district of Keralam. Sreenivasan, who entered the film industry as a small-time actor, with a small role in the 1976-released film Manimuzhakkam. However, he soon established himself as one of the most sought-after artists in the industry.
The National award winner made his debut as a screenwriter with the 1984 released superhit, Odaruthammava Aalariyam, directed by Priyadarshan. Sreenivasan soon emerged as one of the most prolific writers in the industry. His iconic screenplays, which provided the right concoction of humour, satire, human drama, made him the favourite of both the filmmaker and audiences. Sreenivasan made his directorial debut in 1989 with the iconic film, Vadakkunokkiyanthram.
The multi-faceted talent won the National Film Award for Best Film On Social Issues in 1998, for his second directorial venture Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala. He has won over 6 Kerala State Film Awards - including the honours for Best Screenplay, Best Film, and a Special Jury Award for acting, in a career that spanned over 4 decades.
Mohanlal, Rajinikanth And Others Mourn Sreenivasan's Demise
Mohanlal, who collaborated with Sreenivasan for several iconic films over the last four decades, mourned his dear friend's demise in a telephonic interview with Reporter TV. The Thudarum actor stated that he had a deep emotional bond with the late writer-actor, who was much more than just a colleague for him and his family. Mohanlal, who sounded emotional also remembered the iconic gang, including Sreenivasan, Priyadarshan, Sathyan Anthikad, and himself.
The legendary Tamil superstar, who studied with Sreenivasan at the Film And Television Institute Of Tamil Nadu, mourned his demise with an emotional message. "It is shocking to know that my friend Sreenivasan is no more. He was my classmate in Film Institute. Excellent actor and a very good human being. Let his soul rest in peace," said Rajinikanth in an emotional message.
"Adieu to one of the greatest ever writer, director, actor! Thank you for the laughs and the thoughts! Rest in peace legend," wrote Prithviraj Sukumaran, in his official social media handles. "A cinematic legend. One of the greatest contributors to Malayalam cinema. Someone I looked up to as family and also had the privilege to share screen space with. You light will love on forever Sreeni uncle. Prayers and strength to Vimala aunty, Vineeth, Dhyan and the whole family," wrote Dulquer Salmaan in his post.
