The government, oil marketing and gas distributing companies have been promoting and emphasizing the need to shift from LPG gas cylinders to piped natural gas (PNG) connections since the West Asia conflict. The latest rule is to surrender or terminate your Indane Gas, HP Gas, and Bharat Gas connections if you have switched to PNG. The deadline to surrender is 30 days from the date of the PNG connections installed in your household. The government has stated that one household will only have one cooking gas connection. No dual connections are allowed! Amidst this, Mahanagar Gas, a leading PNG distributor, has issued new advisory on LPG-PNG switches.

Gas Cylinder Surrender 30-Days Rules
The 30-day rule was imposed in late May, after the government revised its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026, making it mandatory for LPG customers to terminate their Indane, Bharat Gas and HP Gas connections within 30 days from getting their PNG connections.
But worry not, you can still get your LPG connections back if you are switching a new place which has no PNG infrastructure.
Since customers are asked to terminate their LPG connection within 30 days of getting PNG, the government has announced a provision that allows these customers to restore their LPG connection.
The new rule guides customers to obtain a transfer voucher that can be used in future for restoring LPG connection when shifting to a non-PNG area.
