Gas Cylinder New Rules From September 1, 2026: 7 Big Changes To Know In Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas LPG

September is just around the corner, and a host of changes related to LPG cylinders and PNG is expected in the month. Right from revision in LPG prices and Aadhaar-eKYC deadline to switching to PNG or discontinuation of your cooking gas cylinder, several key changes is likely to be implemented from September 1st in Indane Gas, HP Gas, and Bharat Gas.

1. LPG Prices Change From September 1, 2026

Every start of the month, oil marketing companies revise the prices of LPG gas cylinders either in 14.2 Kg domestic cylinders or 19 Kg commercial cylinders. Depending upon the market conditions, chances of revision in 5Kg or 10Kg free-trade category cylinders is also high.

For instance, in August 2026, the domestic 14.2Kg cylinder prices were unchanged at Rs 942 per cylinder in Delhi, at Rs 941.50 in Mumbai, at Rs 968 in Kolkata and at Rs 957.50 per cylinder in Chennai.

But at the same time, prices of 19 Kg LPG cylinders were lowered for the second consecutive month. For August, 19 Kg LPG price dropped by Rs 192 in Delhi to Rs 2,738, while plunged by Rs 209 in Kolkata to Rs 2,872.50. In Mumbai, 19 Kg LPG price declined by Rs 194 to Rs 2,691.50 and in Chennai, the rate dipped by Rs 200 to Rs 2,906 per cylinder.

LPG prices are determined after taking into consideration global market conditions, crude oil prices movement, import parity price port changes, customs duties, freight charges, GST and other costs.

Currently, international crude oil prices are elevated. US WTI crude is above $83 per barrel and Brent crude is over $88 per barrel. In a month, however, WTI fell 1.21% and Brent is marginally up.

2. LPG Connection Ban

Since the conflict in Middle East escalated in late-February, to curb LPG supply shortages, the government has banned new LPG connections. As per reports, many customers still try to apply for LPG connections but bookings remain closed across gas companies like Indian Oil, HPCL and BPCL. As per reports, no new connections for 14.2 Kg Indane Gas, HP Gas and Bharat Gas has been issued since March 2026.

So customers who plan to apply for LPG are awaiting any update regards to new connection. Any update on this will be keenly watched in September.

3. LPG-PNG Switch

The Oil Ministry is expediting the process of PNG expansion. It has approved the Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Domestic PNG Connections, effective from 1 September 2026, to accelerate the expansion of active domestic PNG connections.

"By incentivising eligible CGD entities for incremental billed PNG connections, the Scheme is designed to strengthen the economics of PNG expansion—helping bring clean, safe, convenient, and affordable piped cooking gas to more households," Oil Ministry said.

So here's what you need to know. The government has banned two cooking gas connection since March 2026, and has asked LPG customers to switch to piped natural gas (PNG) if they have infrastructure available in their society or resident. This means, if you have both LPG and PNG connection facility, you can only keep PNG or apply for PNG. The new update enables the campaign of identifying areas where PNG infrastructure is available and to expedite the process of switching.

The government has also warned that LPG connections will be discontinued of those users who ignored OMCs or city-gas distributors notice for switching to PNG.

4. LPG Gas Cylinder E-KYC Deadline

The LPG biometric Aadhaar authentication deadline has been extended several times in a span of one month. The new deadline is fixed on August 31, from earlier August 23 after it was extended from August 16.

OMCs have warned LPG dealers that there will be no further extension in the Aadhaar-based e-KYC deadline from August 31. LPG distributors reportedly have directed customers to not wait for the final day for completing their e-KYC or else they could face difficulties in their LPG services.

If the August 31st deadline will be missed, then existing LPG customers could either face temporary suspension or will have to pay commercial rates for their 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders.

5. Gas Cylinder Booking Intervals Of 25-Days & 45-Days

One of the major rule that was introduced since the onset of US-Israel-Iran conflict was the booking intervals of gas cylinders. This is called 25-days and 45-days gap from booking LPG refills.

The 25-day rule is applicable for customers in urban areas and the 45-day rule applies to customers in rural areas. This means you will have to wait for this period to refill your LPGs. Earlier, the booking interval gap was 21-days.

Its been five months since the rule is in-place. Any new update on this will also be watched.

6. Gas Cylinder 30-Days Rule

This rule was introduced in May month. The government has given Indian household customers a 30-day period to terminate their LPG connections, whether they are with Indane Gas, HP Gas or Bharat Gas, once they switch to PNG.

Hence, if you get your PNG connections, you will have exactly 30-days to remove your LPG connections.

However, the ministry has also given a relief to LPG users after following this rule. These LPG users can apply for a transfer voucher to obtain their LPG connection if they shifted to a non-PNG area in the future.

7. Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas Booking Advisory

Apart from this, the government has emphasized on booking LPG cylinders through online methods. Since the West Asian conflict, online LPG cylinder bookings have increased to about 99% on an industry basis. This advisory has continued.

Another rule is that for LPG delivery, a customer should have a one-time password (OTP) which will be sent to them on their registered mobile number. If there is no OTP, the delivery will not be completed.
