Gas Cylinder New Rules: What Happens If You Miss August 16 e-KYC Deadline For Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas?

Oil marketing companies are warning LPG customers to complete their e-KYC by August 16 to avoid missing out on benefits of LPG subsidy under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme. Both Indian Oil and BPCL have notified their customers to complete the Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC if not done yet. As per reports, chances of you losing your subsidized household LPG cylinders are high, and you may end up paying higher prices for your Indane Gas, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas cylinders.

LPG Subsidy E-KYC August 16 Deadline:

An Indian Oil message said, "Dear customer, you are required to do e-KYC for receiving LPG cylinder at domestic rates. Despite earlier reminders, you have not done your e-KYC so far. You can do e-KYC at your home through IndianOil ONE App or at your distributor or through the delivery personnel. Failure to do e-KYC by 16.08.26 would make you ineligible for cylinders at domestic rates till e-KYC is completed. Kindly complete your e-KYC at the earliest."

Aadhaar-based biometric e-KYC has been mandatory since March 2026 for customers under the PMUY scheme. The e-KYC process is not required if you have already done it. The Oil Ministry earlier clarified e-KYC is required for those customers who have not done it so far.

There are two major benefits offered to PMUY beneficiaries as part of the LPG subsidy. The first is that eligible PMUY households get an Rs 300 subsidy per 14.2 Kg cylinder. This year, the government reduced the LPG subsidy to 4 refills per year from the earlier 9 refills of LPG cylinders.

But if you have not completed your e-KYC you may have to pay the market price on 14.2 Kg LPG cylinders.

What Happens If You Do Not Complete E-KYC By August 16 For LPG Cylinders?

Currently, the market price for Indane Gas LPG cylinders in 14.2 Kg is at Rs 942 in Delhi, at Rs 968 in Kolkata, Rs 941.50 in Mumbai and Rs 957.50 per cylinder in Chennai.

If you are a PMUY member, you will get Rs 300 LPG subsidy on your 14.2 Kg LPG cylinders. This reduces your paying amount. If Rs 300 subsidy applied, your purchase price on 14.2 Kg LPG cylinders would be around Rs 642 in Delhi, at Rs 668 in Kolkata, at Rs 641.5 in Mumbai and at Rs 657.50 in Chennai.

But this benefit is only available to those who have completed their e-KYC. If you failed to complete the Aadhaar-biometric KYC by August 16, you will be paying the normal market rate on LPG cylinders.

However, a Times of India quoted vice president of All India LPG Distributors Federation Bijan Behari Biswas who said, it is not clear whether non-compliant customers will be charged commercial LPG prices, but definitely they will not get the the cylinders at the notified household rate, which is now Rs 968 in Kolkata, and will have to pay higher price. He added, "The consumers who get subsidy on LPG cylinders and have not e-KYC so far will have to do it by August 16, else they will also become ineligible for subsidy.

It needs to be noted that OMCs have not clarified regarding the higher price on LPG cylinders if failed to do e-KYC. GoodReturns could not confirm the same.

This month, in Delhi, the commercial LPG price dropped by Rs 192 to Rs 2,738, while in Mumbai, the price dipped by Rs 194 to Rs 2,691.50 per cylinder. In Kolkata, LPG is down by Rs 209 to Rs 2,872.50 and in Chennai, 19 Kg cylinder price is lower by Rs 200 to Rs 2,906 per cylinder.

It will be keenly watched if LPG customers who have failed to fulfill e-KYC are charged at domestic or commercial prices.

That said, hurry up! And complete your e-KYC by August 16, 2026.
