Omani Rial

The Omani Rial is the currency of Oman. It will be divided into 1000 baisa. The Omani rial is issued by the Central Bank of man. Between 1973 to 1986, the Omani rial was pegged to the U.S. dollar at 1 Omani rial = US$2.895. This rate was changed in 1986 to 1 Omani rial = US$2.6008. The Central Bank of Oman buys the U.S. currency at 0.384 Omani rials and sells the U.S. currency at 0.385 Omani rials. This currency is the third highest-valued currency unit in the globe after Kuwaiti dinar and Bahraini dinar.

After July 30, 2019, all the banknotes issued before November 1, 1995, became invalid. The 5 to 50 rial banknotes of the 1995 series with foil strips, released into circulation in 2000, stand valid. Hence, as of 2020, the banknotes in circulation are mainly in the 2010 series of 5 to 50 rial. A new series of banknotes has been released with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s image on the notes.
