Diesel Prices in Punjab Vs Other States in India
One can observe that the prices of diesel are not static across the country due to various reasons one such reason is the VAT which is levied by the respective state governments on fuel prices and the rate of VAT differs from one state to another, demand and supply of fuel, logistics and so on.
The rate of Value Added Tax in the state of Punjab on diesel stands at 16.82%. The residents of Mizoram pay 11.52% as VAT on diesel and hence the prices of diesel cost less in Mizoram when compared with Punjab.
The demand and supply factor also adds to the prices of diesel in India. If the transportation for the supply of fuel is less owing to refinery problem or lack of imports, then the demand and supply chain will get affected which in turn will impact negatively on the diesel prices.
Logistics also plays an important role in determining the prices of fuel in India.
Fuel transported to longer distances to cities or regions farther from depots will be priced higher than the places nearer to the storage area of the oil companies.
