Today's diesel price in Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow) is at ₹87.76 per litre, reflecting a slight increase compared to yesterday's rate of ₹87.75. Over the past 10 days, fluctuations have been observed, with prices ranging between ₹87.61 and ₹87.76. Uttar Pradesh is one of the most popular states situated in Northern part of India. It is one of the most populous states in the country with a demography of over 200 million. The state was earlier known as United Provinces during the rule of British in India but post-independence, the state was renamed as Uttar Pradesh during 1950. Uttar Pradesh, the biggest state in terms of diesel consumption is also the state that suffered fluctuation in diesel price. As of November 24, 2020, the price of diesel is Rs 86.6 per liter, it didn’t change in since last 10 days. In October 2020, it witnessed a price incline of 8.77% that is Rs 90.55 to Rs 98.50 per liter. It was the highest ever price tag diesel has ever touched in the state.

It was a day before Diwali, when the central government of India decreased Rs 10 and Rs 5 excise duty on diesel and petrol, respectively. This put a full stop to the incline of the price of diesel in the state. This reduction made a huge impact on the ground and the state’s oil consumption. The price of diesel is determined by the price of crude oil and the taxes imposed by the respective government. Also, the oil companies play an important role in determining the price tag. With the growing demand and the need for supply, the price could witness a slight change in the near future.

Although, the price of diesel in Uttar Pradesh is still high compared to the historical price. As of now, it is predicted that the decline in the price of diesel will stay for a long time and could also attract further decline in the near future as the international crude oil price is fluctuating.

Excise duty and the import duty will be the center of talk other than international affairs in the oil industry. A slight change could attract a major change in the price of diesel in the state.
