Benchmark indices opened the day higher with Infosys surging a huge 7 per cent ahead of its results. The Sensex was higher by 53 points and the Nifty gained 16 points in trade.

The stock was last trading at Rs 810 on the NSE. Cairn India continued to fall as crude prices dropped. The stock was down one per cent in trade.

IT stocks continued to see buying support ahead of numbers from Infosys. HCL Tech, Wipro and TCS were among the gainers in trade.

Banking stocks were having a quiet session in trade with ICICI Bank, Yes Bank and IndusInd Bank all trading flat.

PSU banking stocks continued to see some losses with Canara Bank, Syndicate Bank and Punjab National Bank among the losers.

Mid cap stocks were also seeing some pressure in trade with stocks like CESC, Bharat Forge and Havells among the early losers.

Bharti Airtel continued to see buying support and was up 1 per cent. Meanwhile, markets across Asia were mostly trading higher with the Shanghai Composite and the Hong Kong's Hang Sang among the gainers.
