Sensex Ends Lower On Last Day Of August F&O Expiry
Benchmark indices ended the day lower, as global cues remained weak, particularly in Europe. Markets are cautious ahead of US Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen's Speech on Friday.
The Sensex ended the day with losses of 224.03 points, while the Nifty lost 58.10 points in trade.
Top gainers in trade were GAIL, ITC, Dr Reddy and Axis Bank. Adani Ports, Wipro, Tata Steel, Infosys and SBI were losers in the Sensex.
Top losers in IT sector were Infosys, Wipro and TCS down 1%-1.5% each.
Among other shares, Jubilant Life Sciences hit a record high of Rs 530, up 4.53 on the BSE after the company received Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) final approval. Welspun India continued to drop and ended trade7 per cent lower.
Meanwhile, the rupee was trading at 67.03 to the dollar.
Markets across Asia ended the day mixed ahead of speech by Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, while Europe was trading with losses.
