Delhi Malls Face Water Shortage: Are DLF Promenade, Emporio, Ambience Operating With Half Washroom Units?

Three prominent malls in South Delhi's Vasant Kunk area are reportedly facing significant water shortage. DLF Promenade, DLF Emporio and Ambience Mall are reportedly facing shortage of water supply and are even operating on half washroom units, reported Times of India on Tuesday, October 14.

The water crisis emerged after a ban on private water tankers, which the malls heavily relied upon for their water supply. The development came after the National Green Tribunal halted the use of private tankers as it was found that they used to source water from illegal borewell, a government official told TOI. The issue was set to be discussed in a meeting scheduled for Tuesday, TOI cited the government official.

According to several media reports, the issue was resolved on Monday and the water supply was restored.

A meeting has been scheduled to discuss the issue on Tuesday," said the govt official. GoodReturns couldn't independently verify the development. However, an official statement by DLF has denied the claims.

"Contrary to claims, the two malls are operating with an adequate water supply and have not faced disruptions that would necessitate closure, both malls acknowledge the concerns raised about water supply in Vasant Kunj for a couple of days, but clarify that their malls have robust contingency measures in place,"" TOI quoted DLF Mall's statement.

NGT's Order On Violation of Laws

NGT in its order mentioned the urgent requirement of registration of an FIR against those who have violated the law and executed "theft of water". The NGT came down heavily on water supplier who sourced it from illegal borewells and asked the police commissioner to submit an action taken report in a month.

Water Shortage In Delhi Areas

Several key areas in Delhi are facing water shortage including east, northeast, and south Delhi. These places are facing water shortages due to unavailable Ganga raw water for Bhagirathi and Sonia Vihar Water Treatment Plants over the next week. Affected regions include Surajmal Vihar, Shalimar Park, Vishwakarma Park, Chitra Vihar, and Vasant Kunj.
However, a senior Delhi Jal board official told TOI that the problem has been resolved. The official agreed that there might be some minor inconveniences, but the situation is under control.

The ongoing situation underscores the importance of effective water management strategies in urban areas. The water shortage issue in key areas of the national capital is likely to cause a huge disruption and inconvenience to common people ahead of the Diwali and DHanteras festival. As most of the people were busy in Diwali preparation and cleaning water shortage could pose a significant problem.
