Gas Cylinder New Rules From Sept-1: LPG Prices Hike, E-KYC To Booking, Major Changes In Indane, HP, Bharat Gas

A host of changes has taken place in LPG cylinders with effect from September 1, 2026. One of the biggest changes is the hike in commercial LPG prices for the first time in three months, while the PNG incentive scheme of the government has also come into effect. Furthermore, the fate of LPG users who did not finish their e-KYC by the end of August is also in question, as they will face significant impact on their LPG services. Apart from this, OMCs have continued key rules of booking intervals, refilling, and switching to PNG.

Here are some of the major changes in LPG rules for September 1, 2026:

1. LPG Prices Hike From September 1, 2026

For September 2026, oil marketing companies have hiked commercial LPG prices after two consecutive monthly cuts. The 19 Kg LPG, which is popularly meant for commercial use, is now hiked by Rs 9.50 to Rs 11.50 across major cities in India. The highest hike came in cities like Kolkata. However, LPG is still above Rs 3,000 mark in Patna, making it the most expensive city for commercial cylinders. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, LPG is cheaper than compared to Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, and other cities.

That said, the price of 19 Kg LPG is hiked by Rs 9.50 to Rs 2,747.50 per cylinder in Delhi with effect from September 1, 2026. Further, in Mumbai, the LPG price surged by Rs 9.50 to Rs 2,701 per cylinder. In Chennai, the LPG price increased by Rs 10.50 to Rs 2,916.50. Meanwhile, the highest hike is of Rs 11.50 in Kolkata to Rs 2,884.

In case of domestic LPG cylinders, prices are unchanged for third consecutive month. Accordingly, in September 2026, 14.2 Kg LPG prices will continue to be at Rs 942 in Delhi, at Rs 968 in Kolkata, at Rs 941.50 in Mumbai and at Rs 957.50 per cylinder in Chennai.

2. LPG Gas Cylinder E-KYC Deadline

The last date to complete LPG biometric Aadhaar authentication was August 31. OMCs had warned that August 31st deadline will not be extended for existing LPG users who are yet to complete their Aadhaar-based e-KYC. Hence, if you have missed the LPG e-KYC deadline, then you may face host of temporary impacts.

So far, it is known that LPG users who did not meet the deadline will not get LPG cylinders at the subsidized rate and their direct benefit transfer in the PMUY scheme will be stopped until they complete the e-KYC process. Another key impact will be that non-PMUY customers who failed to complete their e-KYC will likely have to buy their domestic LPG cylinders at the commercial rates. Meanwhile, the probability of temporary suspension for Indane Gas, HP Gas and Bharat Gas could also emerge.

These impacts could only be erased only if the LPG Aadhaar biometrics are completed.

3. LPG-PNG Connection & Switching

The Oil Ministry is expediting the process of PNG expansion. For this, the ministry has implemented a new initiative called "Incentive Scheme for Promotion of Domestic PNG Connections, effective from 1 September 2026". This is aimed to accelerate the expansion of active domestic PNG connections.

So here's what you need to know. The government has banned two cooking gas connection since March 2026, and has asked LPG customers to switch to piped natural gas (PNG) if they have infrastructure available in their society or resident. This means, if you have both LPG and PNG connection facility, you can only keep PNG or apply for PNG. The new update enables the campaign of identifying areas where PNG infrastructure is available and to expedite the process of switching.

The government has also warned that LPG connections will be discontinued of those users who ignored OMCs or city-gas distributors notice for switching to PNG.

4. LPG Gas Cylinder New Connection Ban

Since the conflict in Middle East escalated in late-February, to curb LPG supply shortages, the government has banned new LPG connections. As per reports, many customers still try to apply for LPG connections, but bookings remain closed across gas companies like Indian Oil, HPCL, and BPCL. As per reports, no new connections for 14.2 Kg Indane Gas, HP Gas and Bharat Gas have been issued since March 2026.

So customers who plan to apply for LPG are awaiting any update regarding new connections. Any update on this will be keenly watched in September.

5. Gas Cylinder Booking Intervals Of 25-Days & 45-Days

The booking intervals rule continues in September 2026 as well. Since the start of US-Iran war in late-February, one of the biggest rule to be implemented was the lock-in period for LPG refills. This rule is called 25-day and 45-day LPG refill.

The 25-day rule is applicable for customers in urban areas and the 45-day rule applies to customers in rural areas. This means you will have to wait for this period to refill your LPGs. Earlier, the booking interval gap was 21-days. Its been five months since the rule is in-place. Any new update on this will also be watched.

6. Gas Cylinder Connection Termination 30-Day Rule

This rule was introduced in May month. The government has given Indian household customers a 30-day period to terminate their LPG connections, whether they are with Indane Gas, HP Gas or Bharat Gas, once they switch to PNG.

Hence, if you get your PNG connections, you will have exactly 30-days to remove your LPG connections. However, the ministry has also given a relief to LPG users after following this rule. These LPG users can apply for a transfer voucher to obtain their LPG connection if they shifted to a non-PNG area in the future.

7. Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas Booking Advisory

Apart from this, the government has emphasized on booking LPG cylinders through online methods. Since the West Asian conflict, online LPG cylinder bookings have increased to about 99% on an industry basis. This advisory has continued.

Another rule is that for LPG delivery, a customer should have a one-time password (OTP) which will be sent to them on their registered mobile number. If there is no OTP, the delivery will not be completed.
