Sensex, Nifty Close At Fresh High; Mid and Small Cap Indices Rebound
Buoyed by buying in IT, PSU Bank and realty space, Indian indices in trade today (August 12, 2021) clocked fresh highs, with Nifty hitting levels of 16,375.5 and Sensex logging new high of 54,874.1. Broader markets however saw resilience after posting sharp losses over the last few days.
Intra-day gains were largely maintained and at the close, Sensex settled at a record high of 54,831, up 305 points or 0.56%. Nifty50, ended the session at 16,364, up 82 points or 0.5%.
The top gainers on the Nifty 50 in trade today included stocks like Power Grid, Tata Motors, Tech Mahindra, Larsen and Toubro and HCL. Meanwhile laggards during the session were stocks like Eicher Motors, Grasim, ONGC, Dr Reddys and IndusInd Bank.
Among the Nifty sectoral indices, all of the indices barring one i.e. Nifty Pharma ended in the green. IT, PSU Bank and the realty space witnessed the most gains of over 1 percent, while Nifty Pharma cracked by over 1%.
Nifty IT in intra-day trade logged fresh all time high, with all constituents in the green.
IRCTC announced stock split, with the face value being splitted from Rs. 10 to now Rs.2. On the announcement, the stock of IRCTC scales fresh 52-week high.
Meanwhile, European indices traded mixed with FTSE down and German DAX and French CAC up by up to 0.35%.
