Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas Connection To Be Suspended On August 16? Why Aadhaar E-KYC For LPG Important?

The August 16 deadline for completing Aadhaar-based e-KYC is nearing, and customers need clarity over its impact. As per reports, millions of customers are receiving SMS alerts to complete their e-KYC process, as it is mandatory, or they become ineligible to buy gas cylinders at the subsidized rate, which is cheaper than domestic LPG rates. Some reports also said that failure to complete eKYC would push customers to buy LPG cylinders at commercial rates. Here is a list of key rules and impacts one must know and ensure they complete their e-KYC before the deadline to avoid difficulties in booking their desired LPG cylinders.

What is the deadline to complete LPG E-KYC?

August 15 LPG E-KYC Deadline:

Some reports have stated August 15 as the deadline for LPG e-KYC, but those are for some specific places. For instance, a UDAYANAVI report said BPCL has written a letter to the State Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, issuing instructions to District Collectors to guide citizens in completing their e-KYC by August 15. The report said Mangalorean citizens have to complete their e-KYC by August 15. A similar deadline is set for citizens in Ghaziabad to complete their e-KYC by August 15.

August 16 LPG E-KYC Deadline:

However, a message from Indian Oil asks customers to complete their e-KYC by August 16. Many Indane Gas customers have received this message.

A message read, "Dear customer, you are required to do e-KYC for receiving LPG cylinder at domestic rates. Despite earlier reminders, you have not done your e-KYC so far. You can do e-KYC at your home through the IndianOil ONE App or at your distributor or through the delivery personnel. Failure to do e-KYC by August 16, 2026, would make you ineligible for cylinders at domestic rates till e-KYC is completed. Kindly complete your e-KYC at the earliest."

Indian Oil also notified on August 4th, "Complete your Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (eKYC) today for a seamless LPG experience!" adding on its X post, "Use the IndianOil ONE App or get it done through delivery personnel during LPG cylinder delivery or visit your Indane Distributor."

Either the deadline is August 15 or August 16 for Bharat Gas or Indane Gas customers, or depending upon your city, it is always better to complete your e-KYC now, as the process is simple, to avoid difficulties in the future.

Will Your Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas Connection Get Cancelled?

First and foremost, the e-KYC deadline is mandatory for LPG customers under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) as they enjoy a subsidized rate compared to normal domestic LPG rate.

As per the direction in March 2026, the Oil Ministry had clarified that e-KYC applies to those LPG customers who has not done their e-KYC yet. If you have completed your e-KYC already, then the rule is not applicable to you. But for non-PMUY customers who are yet to complete their Aadhaar-based biometric authentication must do so.

This is not a fresh direction and has been in-place for a long time, as the government is encouraging transparency, establishes clear eligibility, and tackling black marketing.

The BPCL notice indicates that if you missed the e-KYC deadline in August, your LPG cylinder connection will be temporarily suspended until the e-KYC is completed. But your connection will not be cancelled.

Hence, to avoid temporary suspension, you must complete your e-KYC before the deadline.

Indane Gas, HP Gas, Bharat Gas E-KYC Failure Impact

There are two major benefits offered to PMUY beneficiaries as part of the LPG subsidy. The first is that eligible PMUY households get a Rs 300 subsidy per 14.2 Kg cylinder. This year, the government reduced the LPG subsidy to 4 refills per year from the earlier 9 refills of LPG cylinders.

Also, the OMCs have directed that if the e-KYC deadline is missed, you will become ineligible to receive LPG cylinders at domestic rates and most likely will have to pay for Indane Gas, HP Gas and Bharat Gas cylinders at the commercial rates.

Currently, the market price for domestic Indane Gas LPG cylinders in 14.2 Kg is Rs 942 in Delhi, Rs 968 in Kolkata, Rs 941.50 in Mumbai, and Rs 957.50 per cylinder in Chennai.

If you are a PMUY member, you will get Rs 300 LPG subsidy on your 14.2 Kg LPG cylinders. This reduces your payment amount. If the Rs 300 subsidy applied, your purchase price on 14.2 Kg LPG cylinders would be around Rs 642 in Delhi, at Rs 668 in Kolkata, at Rs 641.5 in Mumbai, and at Rs 657.50 in Chennai.

But for PMUY customers, if you missed the deadline, you will not enjoy the subsidized rates.

For domestic LPG cylinder customers, they might have to pay for their cylinders at commercial rates.

This month, in Delhi, the commercial LPG price dropped by Rs 192 to Rs 2,738, while in Mumbai, the price dipped by Rs 194 to Rs 2,691.50 per cylinder. In Kolkata, LPG is down by Rs 209 to Rs 2,872.50, and in Chennai, the 19 Kg cylinder price is lower by Rs 200 to Rs 2,906 per cylinder.

It needs to be noted that OMCs have not clarified what the next LPG rates will be if e-KYC fails to be completed. GoodReturns could not confirm the same. For now, the Indian Oil message reads that you will become ineligible for domestic LPG rates, while PMUY customers may lose their subsidized rate benefits. And some customers who use Bharat Gas and did not comply with the deadline may face temporary suspension.

Overall, complete your e-KYC now!
