Every year, the date of Eid-ul-Fitr keeps people guessing and 2026 is no different. With the Shawwal crescent moon's sighting determining the festival, questions abound: will Kerala celebrate Eid tomorrow, Friday, March 20 or will the festival be observed a day later on Saturday, March 21?
Eid 2026 Date Announced: When is Eid-ul-Fitr in Kerala; Tomorrow or Saturday?
The much-awaited lunar witness arrived on Thursday night, when the Shawwal crescent moon was sighted at Chettippadi in Parappanangadi, according to local news reports. This sighting confirmed the conclusion of Ramadan, paving the way for Eid prayers to be offered across the state.

With the Shawwal crescent moon officially sighted in Kerala on Thursday night, the state will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Friday, March 20, 2026. Religious authorities in Kerala have officially confirmed the sighting, giving clarity to worshippers preparing for the festivities.
Ramadan 2026: When is Eid Moon Sighting in India?
Across India, the date of Eid is determined by the sighting of the new moon. If the Shawwal crescent is visible on Thursday night, Eid is celebrated the next day, in this case, Friday, March 20.
However, if the moon is not sighted, Ramadan completes 30 days, and Eid falls on Saturday, March 21. This is why the festival's date can vary from state to state, keeping devotees in anticipation until the official announcement.
Eid in Kerala
With the moon officially sighted, Eid prayers are set to take place Friday morning across mosques in Kerala. Families are preparing traditional dishes, decorating homes, and organizing community events.
Following the announcement, communities across Kerala started making arrangements for Eid celebrations. Families began finalising plans for traditional gatherings, visiting relatives, and preparing special meals that are part of the festive tradition after the morning prayers. The excitement is palpable as towns and cities get ready for a day of prayers, feasting, and joyous reunions.
