Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, is set to join his father's party, Janata Dal (United), on Sunday, March 8. The entry of the 51-year-old, an engineer by education, into the party comes days after Nitish Kumar filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha. Meanwhile, speculation is growing that Nishant Kumar could emerge as a contender for the post of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister if his father steps down as the state's Chief Minister.
JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar recently filed a nomination for Rajya Sabha in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Nitish Kumar is reportedly expected to be elected unopposed. After security Rajya Sabha seat, Nitish Kumar, is likely to resign as chief minister, which may lead to the formation of a new government in Bihar. Born on July 20, 1975, Nishant Kumar mostly stayed away from politics. Nitish Kumar's only son, Nishant Kumar, pursued B.Tech in higher education.
Nishant Kumar's mother, who was a government employee, died in 2007 from acute pneumonia. He completed his early schooling at St. Karen's in Patna. Later, he moved to Manava Bharati India International School in Mussoorie. After completing his schooling, he pursued software engineering at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi.

Nishant Kumar's net worth stood at Rs 3.61 crore, reported NDTV citing PTI. Nishant Kumar's total net worth includes Rs 1.63 crore in movable assets and Rs 1.98 crore in immovable assets, which was majorly passed on from Manju Sinha, including her retirement dues.
From Spiritualism To Politics
Previously, Nishant Kumar had expressed his unwillingness to join politics. Nearly nine years ago in 2017, Nishant Kumar had publicly distanced himself from politics. "I have neither interest in politics nor any knowledge about this field. My first love is spiritualism, and as of now, I am proceeding on the path of spiritualism," NDTV quoted Nishant Kumar as saying.
Nitish Kumar Files For Rajya Sabha
Nishant Kumar's entry into politics came days after his father, also the longest-serviong chief minister of Bihar, decided to step down from the top post.
"I seek to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in the elections being held this time. I want to assure you with complete honesty that my relationship with you will continue in the future as well, and my resolve to work together with you to build a developed Bihar will remain steadfast. The new government that will be formed will have my full cooperation and guidance," read a social media post by Nitish Kumar.
