Sensex Ends Higher As Global Markets Recover From Yuan Devaluation

Benchmark indices ended the day higher even as markets across the globe staged a smart recovery after the Yuan Depreciation earlier on Tuesday saw markets falling sharply.

The Sensex ended the day higher by 37 points, while the Nifty gained 6 points in trade. Leading the set of gainers once again were IT stocks which rallied after the rupee breached the 65 levels against the dollar in trade. Infosys led gainers from the IT space along with HCL Tech.

Shares in Nestle gained a huge 4 per cent after the Bombay High Court ruled in favour of the company's products being banned.

Bharti Airtel was among the top gainers in trade after the government allowed telecom companies to share airwaves to print calls being dropped.

Tata Power, Cipla and Axis Bank were the top gainers from the Nifty. Metal stocks that have plunged in trade continued to lose ground with stocks of Hindalco, Vedanta and Tata Steel among the big losers.

Midcap stocks ended the day flat, though RCOM fell a huge 9 per cent, while GMR and JP Associates were the other losers from the space.

Meanwhile, markets across Asia ended the day with gains while most of Europe was trading higher.
