Byju's Android App Delisted from Play Store, Services Disrupted Across Platforms and Website

Once one of India's leading edtech platform, Byju's, is currently facing massive operational issues, as users found its Android app disappearing from the Google Play Store and some of website functionalities crashing. This latest development regarding Byju's only adds to the growing crisis Byju Raveendran-led edtech firm, which is now facing legal challenges, and severe liquidity issues.

iOS Version Still Live But Broken

As of now, the Byju's learning app for Android has been delisted from the Play Store, and users who had it previously installed are no longer able to access their paid content or video lessons. According to sources quoted by Economic Times, the app was taken down due to non-payment of dues to key service providers, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), which powers much of the company's backend infrastructure.

While Byju's iOS app remains available on the App Store, its main features have stopped working due to server issues and backend failures, making the platform practically unusable for thousands of users.

Website Still Live, But Core Features Non-Functional

Even though Byju's official website is still accessible, it has been reduced to a basic landing page with most of its SEO-optimised educational content and learning tools offline. The pending payments to AWS have led to the suspension of cloud-based operations, affecting app content delivery, website functionality, and access to educational videos.

Byju's Exam Prep and Think & Learn Premium Still Listed

Interestingly, other Byju's properties, such as Byju's Exam Prep, which tailor made for aspirants of IAS, MBA, UGC NET, and other competitive exams, as well as Think and Learn Premium, is still available on the Google Play Store. However, users have reported that even these apps are experiencing severe technical issues, with video and course access unavailable.

This operational collapse comes when there are already a lot of financial, legal, and reputational troubles for the edtech unicorn. Byju's has been battling investor funding delays, auditor resignations, multiple court cases, and an ongoing insolvency resolution overseen by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT). The company is now under the control of a court-appointed resolution professional, with all major decisions requiring clearance.

As of now, it remains unclear how long Byju's service outage will last or what exact steps are being taken to restore the app back to normal. In the meantime, users are confused, unable to access the services they paid for.
