CBIC Extends Last Date To Avail Late Fee Waiver On GSTR-1 Filing
The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBIC) has extended the last date for availing a waiver on the late fee on filing of output supplies statements through Form GSTR 1 for the period between July 2017 and November 2019. The deadline has been extended by a week to 17 January.
Initially, on the recommendation of the GST Council, the government had decided to waive the late fee if the filed till 10 January.
Through its Twitter handle, the Ministry of Finance said there were more than 54 lakh GSTR-1 filings made following the announcement on 18 December till 9 January. "On average, only about 25 lakh monthly GSTR1s get filed," it said.
"In the view of such huge response, which would lead reduction in unmatched credit, it has been decided to extend the said amnesty scheme from 10th January 2020 to 17th January 2020," it added.

GSTR-1 are monthly statements on Outward Supplies of goods and services to be furnished by all registered business taxpayers. It can be filed online directly through GSTN (GST Network) or through GSPs (GST Suvidha Provider).
