Benchmark indices opened the day higher as global cues remained steady with most of the Asian markets marginally higher in trade.

Power Grid Corporation, PNB, Reliance and State Bank of India were the other gainers in trade from the Nifty.

Amtek Auto which has fallen steeply in the last few trading sessions rallied a huge 8 per cent after the company announced allotment of shares to the promoters at a price that was significantly higher than the current market price,

Buying interest was also seen in counters from the banking space with Axis Bank and IndusInd among the early gainers.

Shares in Wonderla Holidays jumped almost 3 per cent after the company signed a MoU with Tamil Nadu government to set up a amusement park at Chennai.

Midcap stocks were also seeing buying interest with stocks like Crisil, DHFL and Unitech among the early gainers in trade.

Meanwhile, markets across Asia were trading with gains led by the Hong Kong's Hang Sang and the Jakarta Composite. The Chinese Shanghai Composite was trading marginally lower and most of the markets were tentative ahead of the US Fed meet next week.
