Benchmark indices hit another record peak as investors continued to buy into stocks. The Sensex ended the day at 32,255, up 217 points, while the Nifty ended the day higher by by 51 points at a record 9,666 points.

Many brokerages had increased the target price on the stock after the company reported a good set of quarterly numbers. Shares in another heavyweight, ITC also rallied after reports that the company had raised the prices of ciggarettes.

Divis Labs reacted to a poor set of numbers and the stock dropped as much as 4 per cent in trade. Most pharma stocks were slightly subdued in trade. Several stocks hit fresh 52-week highs in trade, including names like Britannia, Bajaj Finserv, Heritage Foods etc. Banking stocks also saw good buying support with stocks like HDFC Bank leading gainers after a good set of numbers.

The Nifty is now on track to hit a record 10,000 points. However, investors are not sure, if the gains would come this week itself. It is also an expiry week for the markets on Thursday, where there could be immense volatility in stocks.
