Benchmark indices ended the day lower following worries over the logjam in parliament which could stall key bills like the GST and the Land Bill.

Leading the set of gainers from the Nifty were Tata Motors, Dr Reddy's and Mahindra and Mahindra. Shares in Bajaj Auto fell a huge 4 per cent and was the top loser from the Nifty after its results lagged estimates.

Cairn India had a superb day in trade following months of seeing a slide in its stock price. The shares ended 7 per cent higher after reports that Cairn Energy would vote against the company's merger with Vedanta.

Sun TV also got a huge boost after the High Court allowed the company to participate in the FM radio auctions. The shares ended 4 per cent higher. Check Sun TV share price and financials

Reliance saw some profit booking after a smart rally seen on Wednesday and ended lower. The company is due to declare its results later on Friday.

Midcap stocks had a good session with KPIT and GMR among the gainers.

Meanwhile, markets across Europe were trading with marginal losses, while most of Asia ended the day higher.
