Sensex Ends Lower In Volatile Session; Asia Ends Mixed
Benchmark indices ended the day lower, despite a recovery in the European indices, which moved sharply from losses to gains.
The Sensex ended the day lower by 71 points, while the Nifty lost 17 points in trade. Bulk of the losses were restricted in the index by ITC, which jumped 5 per cent in trade.
Many mid and small cap stocks gained in trade. Shares in Ujaas jumped 12 per cent, after the company's profits saw a 5-fold increase for the quarter ending March 31, 2016.
Harita Seating Systems was another stock that rallied, following a positive outcome of board meeting and results.
Somany Ceramics too rose on the back of good quarterly numbers. Nifty stocks that lost ground in trade today were ONGC, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto and Sun Pharma.
Software stocks exhibited a slightly weakish trend in trade today with TCS and Infosys among the losers.
Midcap stocks saw some severe selling pressure with Just Dial down 5 per cent, following a disappointing set of results, while Dish TV Fell as much as 4 per cent.
In Asia markets ended the day mixed, the Japanese Nikkei was down as the Yen continued to strengthen against the US dollar.
The Hang Sang too closed lower, while the Chinese Shanghai Composite gained.
