Which Regional Passport Office covers your district in Assam?

- RPO Guwahati: All districts of Assam, including Kamrup Metropolitan, Kamrup, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Tinsukia, Cachar, Barpeta, Nagaon, Sonitpur, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Goalpara, Golaghat, Karbi Anglong, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Sivasagar, Nalbari, Darrang, Morigaon, Bongaigaon, Chirang, Baksa, Udalguri, Hailakandi, Karimganj (now Sribhumi), Dima Hasao and the other districts formed through subsequent reorganisation.

Choosing the right centre

- PSK: The main Passport Seva Kendra is in Guwahati.
- POPSK: Centres are available in Silchar, Tinsukia, North Lakhimpur, Mangaldoi, Dhubri, Diphu, Karimganj, Jorhat, Golaghat, Nagaon, Tezpur, Goalpara, Kokrajhar, Dibrugarh and Barpeta. They are useful if you live away from Guwahati.
- RPO: Visit only if your file is on hold or you have been asked to come in.

How to apply for a passport in Assam

1. Register on the Passport Seva portal (passportindia.gov.in) or the mPassport Seva app.
2. Fill in the form, choose Normal or Tatkaal, and pay the fee online.
3. Book a slot at the Guwahati PSK or any eligible POPSK in Assam.
4. Visit on the appointment day with original documents and self-attested copies.
5. Complete police verification when the Assam Police contact you.
6. Track your status online. The passport arrives by Speed Post.

Useful tips for Assam applicants

- District names: Assam has undergone district reorganisations. Use the district name that appears on your current address proof.
- Long-distance travel: If you live in Upper Assam, Barak Valley or the hill districts, choose a nearby POPSK where appointments are available to avoid travelling to Guwahati.
- Name consistency: Check the spelling and order of your given name and surname across your Aadhaar card, educational certificates, and other documents before submitting the application.
- Reach the centre about 15 minutes before your slot.

Documents to carry to your appointment

- Appointment receipt or Application Reference Number (ARN)
- Proof of address: Aadhaar card, voter ID, utility bill, bank passbook or registered rent agreement
- Proof of date of birth: birth certificate, school leaving certificate, PAN card or Aadhaar card
- Your old passport, for renewal or re-issue
- For minors: the parents' passports or ID proof, plus Annexure forms where needed
