- RPO Chennai: Chennai, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Cuddalore, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri (and Puducherry).
- RPO Coimbatore: Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal and The Nilgiris.

Choosing the right centre
- PSK: Best for most applicants in the big cities. Chennai has more than one PSK, so pick the one easiest to reach.
- POPSK: A passport counter inside a head post office. It offers the same services and saves a long trip to the city if you live in a smaller town.
- RPO: Visit only if your file is on hold, you need to resolve a grievance, or the RPO asks you to come in.
How to apply for a passport in Tamil Nadu
- Register on the Passport Seva portal (passportindia.gov.in) or the mPassport Seva app.
- Fill in the form, choose Normal or Tatkaal, and pay the fee online.
- Book a slot at any PSK or POPSK in Tamil Nadu.
- Visit on the appointment day with original documents and self-attested copies.
- Complete police verification when the Tamil Nadu Police contact you.
- Track your status online. The passport arrives by Speed Post.
Useful tips for Tamil Nadu applicants
- Going abroad for work? Many applicants from Tamil Nadu travel to the Gulf, Singapore and Malaysia. Apply well before your visa or job date so you are not forced into the more expensive Tatkaal option.
- Names and initials: Tamil names are often written with an initial (for example, "R. Kumar"). Write your name exactly as it appears in your documents, and spell out your surname or initial consistently on all of them to avoid queries.
- Address proof: An Aadhaar card, ration card (family card), electricity bill, bank passbook or registered rent agreement can be used as proof of address.
- Reach the centre about 15 minutes before your slot, and avoid carrying large bags.
