Bank Holidays in Bihar during October

Pitru Amavasya or Mahalaya Amavasya: Pitru Paksha masa falls during the month of Bhadrapada. During this period, the sun will be in the Virgo zodiac sign and in conjunction with the moon. The period is very auspicious to offer oblations to the departed ancestors. The whole fortnight is called pitri paksha (the fortnight preceding Amavasya is considered sacred for propitiating departed souls). Many people visit rivers like Ganga, Godavari, Krishna, and Kaveri to offer oblations and pindas to their ancestors.

Maha Navami: It is a Hindu festival. This is the ninth day of the Navratri festival, which is dedicated to Goddess Durga. The festival is celebrated with devotion across the nation. In some of places, people arrange puja samarohas by setting up huge images of Mother Durga. Special pujas and rituals will be held during all nine days. Some people fast during the Navratri for a period of nine days and special delicacies will be prepared to mark the occasion like Vrat Ke chawal, singhade ka halwa, sabudana puri and so on.

Vijaya Dashami: It is a Hindu festival. The tenth day after the nine days of Navratri is known as Vijaya Dashami or Dussehra.

It marks the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana. The day is considered auspicious to start a new business or a new venture. On this day effigies of Ravan, the King of Lanka will be burnt.
