In October, the Tamil Nadu government announced holidays on the following days. October 2, on account of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti; October 12, on account of Ram Navami; October 13, on account of Vijaya Dashami; October 26, the fourth week of Saturday and October 31, on account of Deepawali or Diwali as a bank holiday in Tamil Nadu.

Bank Holidays in Tamil Nadu during October

All the banks in Tamil Nadu will remain closed on the above-mentioned days. The banks will not perform the usual functioning on these days. All the banks including HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Oriental Bank of Commerce will remain closed on the bank holidays.

Ram Navami: Ram Navami is considered one of the most sacred and important days during a year according to Hindu mythology. It is termed that Lord Rama of Hindus took birth in human form on this very day, thousands of years ago. The day resembles the significance of Hindu religion in the country and it is declared by many states as a public and bank holiday. However, people visit their relatives, have vegetarian feast, perform the rituals and visit nearby temples. Tourist and working class population in the state can opt to visit some of the best pilgrims and religious places during this auspicious bank holiday in Tamil Nadu.

Vijaya Dashami: It is a Hindu festival. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the Shukla Paksha during the Hindu calendar month of Ashwin. It marks the beginning of the harvest festival in India and also the day marks the end of Golu, a festival celebrated in the state of Tamil Nadu. Goddess Durga is celebrated with great pomp and gaiety on this day for her victory over the evil demon Mahishasur on this day.

Deepavali: It is a Hindu festival. The festival is celebrated during the month of aipasi (Thula month). The preparations for the grand festival begin a day before the main festival, wherein the house will be cleaned, and smeared with paint, the main entrance doors will be decorated with turmeric and kumkum dots and the water will be filled for the next day’s oil bath. On the day of the festival fruits, flowers, turmeric powder, scented powder, betel leaves, betel nuts, and plantain fruits will be arranged in the pooja room along with new dresses. The day begins with each of the family members taking an oil bath before sunrise. Tasty delicacies like omapudi, velli appam, ukkarai, boondhi, jangri, pathir peni will be prepared.
