The UIDAI has launched a drive to a new variant of aadhar card meant for kids known as Baal Aadhaar Card. The Baal Aadhar is issued to kids who are aged below 5 years and there is no need for them to provide any biometric information while getting registered for aadhar. To differentiate between the Aadhar card meant for adults and kids, the UIDAI issues Baal Aadhar in blue colour for kids who are aged below 5 years. Most of the government IDs are issued to citizens of India after attaining 18 years of age. But Aadhar is the only such document which even a newborn can enrol for.
At the time of issue of Baal Aadhar, the UIDAI will not capture the biometric details of the child. The demographic details will be taken from the aadhar card of any one of the parents. Just similar to the aadhar which is meant for adult, the Baal Aadhar also has a 12 digit unique identification number and the same needs to be updated with biometric details of the child once they turn 5 years. A final set of biometric data will be collected when the child turns 15 years.
The following are the list of documents required for enrollment of Baal Aadhaar
If a child is over 5 years, then the biometric authentication process is mandatory for updating the aadhar card. Once the child turns 15 years, another biometric updation is required. At the time of enrollment, fingerprints of the child, iris scan and photograph of the child will be documented.
