EPF Aadhaar Linking

The Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is a scheme which is designed to help all the employees to save a small amount of their salary money on a monthly basis which after retirement, will give them good returns. Savings under EPF is tax-free in nature as per the Income Tax Act of 1961. One can link their EPF account with Aadhaar number either by online mode or offline mode.

EPFO Aadhar Link Online

Use the EPFO online service and link your aadhar number to EPF

  • Visit EPFO website (https://iwu.epfindia.gov.in/eKYC/)

  • This is an eKYC Portal which is meant to link aadhar to EPF account.
  • Enter your UAN, mobile number which is linked with UAN. 
  • Proceed further and click on generate OTP.
  • Enter the OTP and select the gender to proceed further.
  • Enter the Aadhaar number and choose the ‘Aadhar verification’ method. (you can either choose using mobile/e-mail based verification or use biometric)
  • Choose the ‘Use Mobile or E-mail based verification’
  • You will get an OTP to complete the verification process.

EPFO Aadhar Link by UMANG App

By using UMANG app you can easily link your aadhar with epf account. The app is available on google app or app store.

Download the app and register yourself to link aadhar with epf account. Scroll down and go through the process.

  • Open the app and click on All Services
  • Under the All Services Tab, click on EPFO
  • On the EPFO tab, select eKYC services. Under eKYC Services, select Aadhaar seeding option.
  • Enter the UAN number and OTP. Click on Login
  • Another OTP will be sent on Aadhaar registered mobile number and email
  • Once OTP verification is complete, Aadhaar will be linked with EPF, where EPF and Aadhaar details are matched.

EPFO Aadhar Link by OTP Verification

Below are the steps to link Aadhar with your EPF account with e-KYC Portal of EPFO using the OTP feature:

  • Go to https://iwu.epfindia.gov.in/eKYC/
  • Click on LINK UAN AADHAR
  • Enter your UAN Number, Mobile Number linked with UAN, Gender, Aadhar Number, Captcha Code
  • Select Aadhar Verification using Mobile/Email based OTP
  • Enter the OTP in the Confirm OTP section and click on Submit
  • Once the verification is complete, Aadhaar will be linked with EPF, where EPF and Aadhaar details are matched.

EPFO Aadhar Link by Biometric Credentials

  • Go to https://iwu.epfindia.gov.in/eKYC/
  • Click on LINK UAN AADHAR
  • Enter your UAN Number, Mobile Number linked with UAN, Gender, Aadhar Number, Captcha Code
  • Select Aadhar Verification using biometric
  • Biometric will be captured using the registered biometric device.
  • Once the verification is complete, Aadhaar will be linked with EPF, where EPF and Aadhaar details are matched.

How to link Aadhaar with EPF Account via offline method?

Individuals who prefer to link their aadhar number with EPF account via offline mode has to visit the EPF office in their respective district and fill in the ‘Aadhaar seeding application’ form which is also known as EPF KYC and provide the necessary documents including the photocopy of Aadhaar card, UAN and PAN card along with the form. Submit the form to the executive at any of the field offices of EPFO. After verification, the aadhaar number will be linked to the EPF account. You will be receiving a message to your registered mobile number related to this.

Benefits of linking Aadhaar with EPF Accounts

The EPFO (employees provident fund organization) currently has more than 4 crore subscribers. It has so far requested all its members to link their EPF account with Aadhaar card.

The following are the list of benefits of linking Aadhaar with EPF accounts:

  • Reduces the chances of having a duplicate account.
  • Very few chances of errors and discrepancies in the data if linking is done as the individual’s information will be consistent with Aadhaar card details.
  • One can withdraw PF online without hesitation of the employer.
  • The withdrawal of PF amount can be completed online without facing any hassles.

Name Mismatch Issues

Some of the EPF account holders will face the name mismatch issue. If the name of an individual differs in the EPFO or UIDAI, then linking of Aadhaar card with EPFO is not possible. Due to the name mismatch issue, one may not be able to update it. If in case, the name on Aadhaar Card is different then do bring it to the notice of your employer.

How to Check and Verify if the Aadhaar Number is linked to the PF Account?

One can follow the below-mentioned steps to know if their aadhaar number is linked with the PF account or not.  

Step 1: First visit the official web portal of PF at https: https://unifiedportal-mem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/  

Step 2: Log in to your PF account using the UAN and password.   

Step 3: Now the UAN Member home page will open, you can find the aadhaar number details mentioned on the page under the Profile Information.   

Step 4: If you find “Verified (OTP, Demographic)” against your Aadhaar number, then it shows that your Aadhaar number is linked to the EPF account and the same has been verified by the UIDAI.   

Is it mandatory to link the Aadhaar number with UAN?

If an employee is planning to file for an online claim of their EPF, then it is mandatory to link their respective aadhaar number with the UAN. Also, the employer will be able to file for Employee-cum-Return (ECR) challans and deposit funds to the employee's EPF account only if the PF account is seeded to the aadhaar card.
