Is Aadhaar Card Mandatory?

The ruling by India’s highest court – Supreme Court has made it clear that Aadhar card cannot be made mandatory as of now by the Government of India. In some cases, the government can make aadhar mandatory for example – the opening of bank account, application of PAN card number, verification of mobile number and so on.

Despite aadhar becoming one of the most important identity proof, it is yet to reach out to most of the people in the country. In place of aadhaar, one can use driving license, passport, PAN card for proof of address or identity proof.
